Pssssst....

A few years--and about 76 pounds--ago, I had lovely author head shots taken by a talented friend. And well...I've changed a lot since then. Try...I've melted 76 pounds, one case of diabetes, neuropathy, and a few other embarrassing comorbities off of my body.

I wanted to show it off. I wanted to feel pretty in my author pictures again. And even better yet, I wanted to inspire my fellow readers. If I can change, anybody can. You can take that to the bank, my friends.

Here's a sneak preview of my photo shoot yesterday....

This one is my hubby's favorite.

I'm having a hard time believing that's my face.

Word. I actually look--dare I say it--kinda, maybe, a tiny bit beautiful in these pictures. So help me, my photographer (Heidi) was amaze-balls. I hate that term, but no other word will describe her mad eye for detail adequately. She rocks. True story.

Check out my photographer's Facebook page HERE: C&H PHOTOGRAPHY PAGE

Get some pics done when you're in Eastern Washington....you'll thank me. I know this.

I started a new job this week...

Working five days a week with special needs kids. IN the same school as my own kid's classes (so I may get to see them from time to time) I'm so excited to have some extra income coming in...

And even more excited to do something I'm passionate about. I love working with special needs kids, and wish more so than anything that that I would've succeeded in adopting one. *sigh* Some dreams aren't meant to come true, though. And so, to console my battered heart, I work with special needs kid at school. It's not quite the same, but just as important. And besides....some of these kids are really incredible. It was a treat getting trained and watching the full time teachers working in the classroom. They are just so good at what they do. I'm impressed.

(And I do not impress easily.)

Here's to bringing in more income, still having time each day to working on my books, and doing something very near and dear to my heart.

New head shots!!

Oh, I'm so excited!

The amazingly talented C&H Photography is going to take new head shots for me tonight! Oh, I'm so glad to be able to get new author pictures, so I can stop using either old (fat) pics of myself, or worse yet, Instagram pictures.

I'm so lucky.......and thrilled!

Want a sneak peek?

At Then & Now, a.k.a. Candace's story??

Yes, my friends, book 3 of the This & That Series is coming soon, and Candace's story will be shared!

Here's a sneaky peaky....

" “It still is.” His eyes twinkled. They literally twinkled. How old was this kid? “I’ve got big plans for it. In fact, my realtor told me about some of the things you’ve done to your house. She said it was an impressive remodel.”
“It was mostly my husband.” I nodded at the front of my house. “He was really into restoring the whole mid century modern thing, but managed to do it with a more up to date twist. He was very proud.”
“I’ll have to come see the inside sometime.”
I must have made a face, because Mason put his hands out. “Oh, no. I mean, purely for architectural reasons. And only if you, you know, invite me in, or something.”
“Of course.” I pressed my lips together, and backed up onto my porch. “Maybe we’ll do that sometime.”
“Sounds good.” He released a laugh. Boy this Mason kid was a happy fellow. “Go on in, and get that sleep now.”
“Okay.” I felt for the handle behind me. “It was nice to meet you.”
“You, too, Candace.”
I practically fell into the house, then shut and locked the door behind my back with a definitive click. Breathing hard, I pressed a hand against my chest to calm my heart. Why was I out of breath? What was wrong with me?
And, by the way… did Mason wink at me as he was walking away?"

Are you as excited as I am to find out how Candace finds love? And with who? Have you read books 1 (Baby & Bump) and 2 (Apples & Oranges) yet? NO?? Grab them today!!

Happy Earth Day...

AND happy birthday to my oldest child!

He turns 15 today, and I can't exactly wrap my brain around that. He is charming, and handsome, and smart, and talented, and dedicated, and intelligent. I am constantly baffled by what an incredible student, son, brother, and young man he's become.

Love you, kid.

ALSO...

It's EARTH DAY! We love earth day in our household. I guess it's because I was raised by hippies, and also because I am 100% turned off by anything that pollutes the earth, misuses the earth, or offends the earth's creatures. I know, I know...I'm a closet tree hugger. Sue me.

Today I want you, each of my darling, witty, beautiful readers, to commit to do ONE thing in 2014 to help the earth. Maybe it will be to stop hunting for sport (barbaric, if you ask me). Maybe it will be to make a greater effort to recycle. Maybe you can carpool a few days a week!

There's a bazillion things you can do to show kindness to our earth.

Happy Earth Day, everyone! And happy Birthday to my Liam!

Look where I went last week!

I took my third child (out of four) to Seattle last week! He had an appointment at Seattle Children's Hospital (which is a phenomenal facility, btw) and we got to spend the evening before exploring the Emerald City!

(Which, I'll have you know, is my most favoritest city in the US)

Per my son's request, we went to the TOP of the Space Needle...and I have to admit, I was alarmed by how high it was. I'd gone to the top a few times as a kid and a teen, but I must have forgotten how much the height made my stomach pitch. Oh my goodness....

Here's a pic of us at the very top:

Love my boy. :)

Happy Easter!

Hope you all enjoyed your Easter with your family, friends, loved ones, and possibly a great book. :)

My husband and I enjoyed a delightful dinner with my mother, my brother, my nieces, my nephews, my "extra" nephew, and my great niece. It was a wonderful way to spend a special day.

I have a strong testimony of Jesus Christ, and hold this day in very high regard. I hope each of you, whether religious or not, find this day to be joyful, peaceful, and filled with gratitude. I sure did.

God bless.

Friday Man Candy

As always, I'm bringing you some nice Man Candy to look at..........minus banana hammocks and sweat nipples. You're welcome. :)

This young man is nice to look at. Like...super nice to look at. I'm tip toeing into creepy old lady territory, but I can't help it. I mean, look at him! Yeesh!

Rumor has it, he's got a nice accent, too. Oh, how I loves me an accent. You betcha.

My motto for 2014.

I heard this quote a few weekends ago, and it stuck with me.

After having a horrible, terrible, no good, very bad year last year....

I've decided this is my motto for 2014.

Tuesday, April 15, 2014

Guess what I did yesterday?

Yup.

I freaking love this place.

I could spend a week in this store, and probably drop about a grand. Or two.

It's an addiction.

Admitting you have a problem is the first step.

Monday, Monday...

....can't trust that day?

Grab a copy of my latest, The Art of Being Indifferent, to escape. Here's the link.

It's all about two teens from opposite sides of the tracks. Posey is a foster kid about to age out of the system, and Drew is the Golden Boy son of a small town mayor. They can't stand each other. That is, until they discover that their abusive pasts are way more similar than they would think. Love blossoms from the tutoring assignment from hell.

Hope you enjoy Posey and Drew's story!

Man Candy Friday!

Hooray! It's Man Candy Friday again!

As always, I bring you some lovely specimens, without the icky bonus of banana hammocks, sweaty nipples, or awkwardness. You're welcome.

This week's Man Candy comes in the form of Ewan McGregor. I've been in love with Mr. McGregor since Moulin Rouge, and I prefer his less posey pictures. I like the ones where he's busting a gut laughing, mostly because his grin is so deliciously goofy.

Enjoy....

Hello 160's.

I haven't weighed in the 160's since the mid to late nineties. The last nine months have been filled with some of the worst, most agonizing grief and emotional turmoil that I've ever felt, and some of the hardest work I've ever done.

Getting healthy, feeling better (physically) than I have in 15 years, recovering from major health issues, moving more, working out & exercising, fitting into sizes I haven't seen since my late teens, and joining my kids in physical activities that I've literally never done before....

All of these things add up to the reasons why I am so glad and grateful that I decided to have weight loss surgery, and change my life. I am determined to make this a lifelong change. I am determined to enjoy my years with my four remaining children. I am determined to live a long, healthy, and active life. Moving around, doing things, and being active feels 10 bazillion times better than sitting around and watching life go on without me.

My husband snapped this picture last Saturday. I was shocked by how small and young I looked. I don't see that when I look in the mirror. I see a woman who is almost 40, covered in wrinkles, hiding her bald head under a wig, and who still has a big tummy that needs so much toning, it's not even funny. I don't see *this* person. My husband does, though. My kids do, too. I guess that's all that matters. :)

I'm just grateful I can have moments like this with my kids. A year ago, and I wouldn't have been able to fit into a booth. No, really.

Waiting....waiting.....waiting....

My daughter (who is 12, and quite the tween fashion dish, if you ask me) and I are waiting for this book to come out....

I wish I could say we're being patient, but we're not. May 6th is coming very slowly. We've enjoyed this series so much. I love being able to read books WITH my daughter. So. Much. Fun.

Going on an overnighter!

Oh, I'm so excited to get away today!

Yesterday was the start of my children's spring break, and so we decided to do an overnighter in a lovely Washington State gem that I haven't seen since I was six or seven years old!

The last time we were in Leavenworth, my family ate at fondue restaurant (and my dad was ticked, because he thought it was "frou-frou food") and my parents bought me a nurse doll. I wish I still had that doll. I named it Jane, after my aunt (who was, in fact, a nurse) and I treasured it! I remember especially loving her little white paper hat. *sigh*

Sadly, my hubby has a lot of important pharmaceutical things happening at his job, so he's staying home with our fluffy, dumb dog while the kids and I travel to the mountains. I'm taking my retired mother, too, which will be interesting. She always comes up with hilarious things to say on road trips. I'm certain I'll come home with plenty of one liners to snicker at for weeks.

We are also going with another family that we consider close enough to be relatives. These people have been with me--and after I got married, us--for years, and for that, I am eternally grateful. I love that we take a few vacations a year with this family. They're almost the only people, besides my brother in law and his family, that I don't mind sharing our vacations with.

Is it spring break for your kiddo's, too? What will you be doing during this lovely spring-y week?

Monday, April 7, 2014

Happy Monday!

I was richly fed this last weekend (spiritually speaking) and now I'm super stoked to spend Spring Break with my kids! We're going for an overnighter HERE:

Can you guess where that is? Hmmm, seems like a cool setting for a bookie....

And then later on in the week we're taking our trailer for an inaugural camping trip deep in the woods where THIS took place:

Oooooooooooooohhhhh, creepy.

Wish us luck!

FACELIFT!!

Now that my wonderful editor and I are finishing up work on Then & Now, book 3 of the This & That Series, I decided it was time for a facelift.

Since I wasn't terribly crazy about the cover for the first two books in the series, I decided to give the trilogy a more modern, conducive look. Now when I go to sell the This & That Series in a boxed set, they will all match! Hooray!

So, without further adieu, here are the new covers for the This & That Series! I hope you all love them as much as I do!
